Rooubaix owes its take off to the textile industry, which deeply marked the urban environment and gave plave to amazing architecture. The first town in the Lille urban area to do so, Roubaix was awarded "Town of Art an History" status from the Ministry of Culture in 2001, in recognition of the quality and originality of its heritage.
